Variable Wattage Vs. Mechanical Mods

Mechanical Mods: 

     With so many new devices on the market today, you may no longer see or know what a mechanical mod is anymore.  Mechanical mods are tube like vape devices that usually hold a single battery and have a direct connection from your battery to your contacts. 

Upsides:

• No electronics mean it will last a lifetime
• Simple to use, only one button on the device
• Smaller and more pocketable than a variable wattage box mod

Downsides: 

• Single battery means shorter lifespan compared to a dual battery box mod
• Power output is not constant (power drops as battery drains)
• No way to "turn the device off" truly without taking the battery out

Variable Wattage Mod:

     A variable wattage mod is a newer style of vaping device that essentially gives your device a "brain".  Variable wattage mods are all regulated with electronic chips that are designed to work differently than how a normal mechanical mod would. 

Upsides: 

• Extra battery provides greater battery life (applies to dual battery devices)
• Power output is constant until battery dies
• Has the options to lock the device or shut down the device completely
• Built in safety features (No atomizer detection, ohmage protection, firing timer)

Downsides: 

• Not as portable as a mechanical mod
• Adjustments are not set so they have to be set manually with every new atomizer 

Variable wattage mods make up at least 80% of the vape device market due to the reliability and safety you get with these devices.  Unlike a variable wattage device, mechanical mods have too many variables and safety issues tied to them without proper battery and building safety knowledge.  With all the benefits of a variable wattage device, the mechanical mod really is obsolete in today's vape scene.
